Peter Max Finkelstein is a German-American painter, especially associated with energetic psychedelic and pop art. Max is a German-American artist, pop culture icon, and formal painter, recognized for his use of bright colors. A pop culture icon that has completely changed the way contemporary art is perceived in America, Peter Max is a graphic artist known for his psychedelic painting styles and his use of bright, bright colors.

Peter Max rose to prominence as a pop artist and creator of posters associated with mass media images from the psychedelic art movement in the 1960s, like Woodstock. His work became synonymous with 1960s psychedelic art, although he was not as much an innovator, as the likes of Stanley Mouse, Victor Moscoso, Rick Griffin, Wes Wilson, and Anton Kelley were. Nevertheless, Peter Max was known as the Visionary Pop Artist, possessed a dynamic of Neo-Expressionalism, and through his use of vibrant colors became a part of the next generation’s culture.

Today, Max has evolved from visionary 60s pop artist into master of Neo-Expressionism. His work has left a lasting imprint on the art world from the sixties into the millenium, and his career has a history unlike any other.

As much a symbol of New York City’s iconography as the Statue of Liberty, which he has painted dozens of times over in various variations in the past decade, he is one of the most celebrated artists of all time. World-renowned, internationally famous, and trained globally in art, Max lived in several countries before he was 15, and has traveled around the world ever since, but calls New York home. This pop is a cultural icon, just like those of the people and places that he has painted. During Peter Max’s lengthy career, the artist has painted six US Presidents, was an official artist of the US 2006 Winter Olympic Team, and has created artwork for Woodstock, the FIFA World Cup, and U.S.

Max’s psychedelic imagery, wide color spectrums, and unique portraits give him his signature style. He says that an encounter with an astronomer while a young boy, inspired him to become fascinated with the Universe, and this has heavily influenced his art. It is the cherry on top when you get to make something that you love, and Peter Max Finkelstein is one lucky, talented artist. His love and amazement of the Universe, and his love of shapes, colors, and the people whose influences he incorporates into his art are major themes in his paintings. Peter is a Multidimensional Artist, using Bold, Vibrant Colors, making art reflect joy. The multicultural background of this renowned artist has given his works rich textures and artistic characters, deeply influenced by Western classical art, European Expressionism, American Jazz, and ancient Chinese traditional culture.

Sadly, however, it has been reported that Peter Max has stopped painting altogether due to dementia. And it is unknown if a Peter Max purchased today was truly painted by Peter Max due to his ailing health and his dementia. Works before the year 2018 are most likely one of the last painted by this prolific artist.
