Last year I took art history and I still continue to read and expand my knowledge of it as I find it very interesting but every now and then I when reading I find myself asking is this too much? Why do we feel the need to attach some kind of meaning to every work? Could the artist just not mean anything behind the work and were searching for something in it that just doesn’t exist? Don’t get me wrong I understand the worth of looking into a piece even if there is not direct meaning to learn about the culture surrounding it and what is happening at that time in history. I also see the value in making ones own interpretation and adding meaning to I as a viewer I just think that sometimes we search too hard for a meaning that might not exist and can’t just leave it as there is none.
